Granåsen is a 5 department kindergarten next to the ski area, Granåsen in Trondheim, Norway. The building is located on a hill just below the ski jump and has a good relationship with the forest, which provides a great outdoor opportunities for children. The building is on two floors, the ground floor has 3 departments and the upper floor has 2 departments for older children including outdoor activity areas, administration and staff facilities. There are 3 departments on the ground floor that share a kitchen, dining room and a playground.
The main building material is wood with a natural finish while alcoves are painted in different colors defining the departments. Vertical wood trim with different intervals create a playful and dynamic facade. Each department has a protruding window that breaks up the facade and is a place for children to sit.
Outdoor play area is divided into two regions at different heights. Ramps, outdoor and indoor area, colors create a varied and interesting landscape for play and outdoor activities.
