Vacation house
Þingvellir — Iceland
The vacation house is situated on the western shore of Lake Þingvallavatn with magnificent view over the lake and the mountains around. The design concept is based upon the need for wind sheltering from the prevailing wind and maximum solar access all day to create a comfortable condition for outside dwelling at relatively low temperatures. The challenge was to integrate the sheltering elements into the architecture of the house – thus expressing architecturally local climatic adaption.
The external wall cladding is rough larch wood boards, the interior walls are of gypsum and rough larch; the ceilings of birch plywood and the floors of maple wood and basalt tiles.
